Marina Romea is a bathing area located 100 metres south of the mouth of the Lamone River in Ravenna, extending from the southern pier of the river mouth. The sandy coast is bordered inland by coniferous forest and salt marshes. The beach width measures 130–150 metres. The area is classified as coastal marine water in an alluvial plain with high stability.

Location

Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. Located 100 metres south of the Lamone River mouth. One bathing establishment is present in the area providing first aid services.

One bathing establishment with first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food service points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2020–2023). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 34 CFU/100 ml; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 42 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 29 CFU/100 ml; Intestinal enterococci (95th percentile): 38 CFU/100 ml. One pollution episode of short duration was recorded in 2023, and two episodes classified as anomalous situations occurred in 2023 related to a regional flood event on 16–17 May 2023. Temporary bathing prohibition orders were issued by the municipality until the event concluded.

Risks

The Lamone River mouth is adjacent to the north. During intense precipitation, pollutants from the Lamone River can be carried into the sea. The presence of the river mouth nearby can cause eutrophication phenomena. No cyanobacterial blooms have been reported in the last four years. No phytoplankton (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgal blooms were recorded from 2020–2023.
