Water quality classification: Excellent (2017-2020). The Giovinazzo wastewater treatment plant discharges treated urban effluent to the sea, which represents the only potential point source of pollution affecting water quality. No short-duration pollution events were recorded in the past four years.

No cyanobacterial or algal blooms detected. No toxic algal species proliferation recorded in the past four years. No anomalous situations verified.
