Mösersche See is a natural lake located east of Kirchmöser and south of Brandenburg an der Havel, forming part of the Brandenburg town lakes. The lake has a surface area of 1522 hectares, a maximum depth of 7.3 metres, and an average depth of 2.4 metres. Water quality is primarily determined by nutrient influx from the River Havel, which flows through the lake. The lake is popular with water sports enthusiasts including windsurfers, sailors, and water tour participants.

Water

Natural freshwater lake. Surface area: 1522 hectares (combined with Breitlingsee). Maximum depth: 7.3 metres. Average depth: 2.4 metres. Water exchange time: ≤ 30 days. Water level fluctuations: approximately 1.0–1.2 metres. The lake is unlaminated (unstratified) and calcareous.

Location

East of Kirchmöser and south of Brandenburg an der Havel, in the district of Brandenburg an der Havel. The bathing area is a 21-metre beach located on the western shore in the locality of Kirchmöser.

Facilities

Beach with grassy sunbathing area, playground, beach volleyball facilities. Boat landing station nearby.

Bathing water quality monitored every four weeks during the bathing season by Brandenburg Havel Office for Health.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2024). Good (2016–2019). Ecological status class: Moderate (ÖZK 3) as of 2024. Microbiological monitoring shows no single-value exceedances of E. coli or intestinal enterococci in the last 4 years. Water temperature: maximum 27.9 °C, minimum 13.6 °C, average 22 °C. pH: maximum 9.1, minimum 7.5, average 8.2. Water transparency: maximum 1.1 metres, minimum 0.1 metres, average 0.6 metres. Salinity: < 0.5‰. Natural nutrient content: eutrophic. Measured nutrient content: polytropic.

Risks

Occasional cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms observed during bathing season; risk of future mass development assessed as low to moderate. Phytoplankton with moderate risk of future mass development. Water transparency can fall below 0.5 metres in late summer. No risk of cercarial dermatitis due to low bird populations.
