Moledo is an urban beach with a long but narrow sand strip located in Caminha municipality. The beach encompasses 2 bathing concessions. It is situated on the Lima River basin and is monitored for bathing water quality according to Portuguese water quality regulations.

Water Quality

Water quality classification established under Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling frequency is every 3 weeks. No days of bathing being advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution events occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Fecal contamination may originate mainly from Ribeira das Preces, which flows close to the beach, and from the existing sanitation network. Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive flow of tributary streams during rainfall, leading to entrainment of microbiological load, or due to malfunction of the wastewater pumping station. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with a history of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no history of occurrence.
