Insel Neuwerk is a bathing site located in the North Sea within the Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park in the southeastern part of the North Sea and southwestern part of the Elbe estuary. The island has an area of approximately three square kilometers with a maximum elevation of seven meters. The bathing area is situated at the main landing stage on the southwestern side of the island, featuring approximately 150 meters of sandy beach. The water body is a natural coastal water characterized by tidal influence and sand flats.

Coastal water body in the North Sea, part of the Hamburg Wadden Sea. The bathing area extends approximately 150 meters of sandy beach. The water is tidally influenced with sand flats (Neuwerker Inselwatt) to the south and additional flats (Scharhörner Watt) to the north.

Location

Insel Neuwerk is part of Hamburg-Mitte district in Hamburg, Germany. The bathing site is located at the main landing stage (Hauptanlegesteg) on the southwestern side of the island. Coordinates: 3466284 (East), 5976510 (North).

Season

Official monitoring conducted during bathing season with minimum 16 sampling occasions over four seasons.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2015–2018: Excellent (ausgezeichnete Badegewässerqualität). Microbiological parameters (2015–2018): Escherichia coli 95-percentile 15.9 CFU/100ml, 90-percentile 14.62 CFU/100ml; Intestinal Enterococci 95-percentile 25.11 CFU/100ml, 90-percentile 21.23 CFU/100ml. Monitoring is conducted at the main landing stage.
