Nikerjärve is a small natural lake located on the east shore in Aegviidu village, Anija municipality, Harjumaa. The bathing site is a popular recreational destination that can attract up to 100 visitors during fine summer days. The sandy beach area extends approximately 16 metres along the water. Water quality has been rated as excellent since at least 2012, with regular monitoring of faecal enterococci and Escherichia coli throughout the bathing season.

Water

Nikerjärve is a natural lake with a water surface area of 4 hectares, length 330 metres, and width 170 metres. Maximum depth is 7 metres with an average depth of 2.8 metres. The swimming zone has an average depth of approximately 1.5 metres. The lake bottom is covered with a thick layer of brown sapropel. The lake is soft-water, light-coloured, and eutrophic, containing abundant mineral and organic substances including calcium salts.

Location

Harjumaa, Anija municipality, Aegviidu village, on the east shore of Nikerjärve lake. A small car park is available near the bathing site. The nearest town centre (Aegviidu) is approximately 1.5 kilometres away.

Facilities

Changing cabins, toilets, waste bins, and a small car park are available at the bathing site. The site is maintained by Anija municipality administration.

Season

Regular monitoring occurs throughout the bathing season. Quality assessment is conducted after each bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent (väga hea). Regular monitoring from 2012 to 2019 consistently rated the bathing water as excellent. Testing measures faecal enterococci and Escherichia coli content. Quality assessment is determined after each bathing season using results from the preceding four years.

Risks

The risk of short-term pollution is low as no significant pollution sources exist near Nikerjärve. The risk of potentially toxic cyanobacterial blooms is low with no historical records of such occurrences. No data on health-hazardous phytoplankton or macroalgae.
