Nordseestrand Hauptbad I is located on Langeoog, one of the East Frisian islands in northwestern Germany situated within the Wadden Sea National Park. The island covers approximately 20 square kilometres and features a sandstroke about 14 kilometres long backed by dunes up to 20 metres high. The bathing and castle beach extends over 4 kilometres and is divided into sections A through L from west to east, with adjacent areas for dogs, youth, and surfing. The beach is characterized by tides, tidal channels, dunes, and sandbanks typical of the German North Sea coast.

Water

Coastal waters of the North Sea. The beach features sandbanks, tidal channels (Priele), and experiences tidal movements with varying water depths.

Location

Langeoog is accessible by island railway from Langeoog harbour, by train from all directions, and by aircraft. The island has a general motor vehicle ban. The main bathing beach runs over 4 kilometres and is subdivided into sections A to L.

Facilities

DLRG lifeguard supervision at three fixed stations. Adequate sanitary facilities. Free sports and play equipment rental available at the sports beach. Playground equipment including swings, seesaws, slides, and horizontal bars present during the season. Beach basket rental available during the season.

Water Quality

EU classification: Excellent quality (percentile assessment according to Directive 2006/7/EC). Coastal waters category.

Risks

Sandbanks west of the sports beach must be avoided. The tidal channel in front of the beach has become deeper and the current significantly stronger. Multiple rescue operations including helicopter rescues have occurred in recent years. No solid ground exists in the flood debris zone at low water, creating a sinking hazard. The danger zone begins west of the sports beach in the seaward extension of the rescue ring line.
