Nordseestrand Westbad is a bathing beach on Langeoog, one of the East Frisian Islands in northwestern Germany located within the Wadden Sea National Park. The island has an area of approximately 20 square kilometres and features a sand beach about 14 kilometres long, backed by dune landscapes with dunes up to 20 metres high. The bathing and castle beach spans over 4 kilometres and is divided into sections A to L from west to east, with adjacent areas for dog swimming, youth activities, and surfing. The beach is characterised by tidal movements, creeks, dunes, and sandbanks typical of the German North Sea coast.

Coastal waters of the North Sea. The beach extends over 4 kilometres with a sand beach and associated tidal flats and sandbanks.

Location

Langeoog is accessible by island railway from Langeoog harbour, by train from all directions, and by aircraft. A general motor vehicle ban applies on the island. The beach is divided into sections A to L from west to east, with a sports beach, dog beach to the west, and youth and surf beaches to the east.

Facilities

DLRG lifeguard supervision at three fixed stations. Sanitary facilities in adequate numbers. Sports and play equipment available for free loan at the sports beach section during the season. Swings, seesaws, slides, and horizontal bars present on the bathing beach during the season. Beach chairs available for rent during the season.

Water Quality

EU classification: Excellent quality (percentile assessment according to Directive 2006/7/EC).

Risks

Sandbanks to the west of the sports beach must be avoided. The sandbanks have increased in height, making the tidal current channel deeper and the flow significantly stronger. Multiple rescue operations, some involving helicopters, have occurred in recent years. No firm ground exists in the flood-tide zone at low water, creating a risk of sinking. The danger zone begins west of the sports beach in the seaward extension of the line marking the beginning of the large creek.
