Nordseestrand Ostbad is a bathing beach on Langeoog, one of the East Frisian islands in northwestern Germany located within the Wadden Sea National Park. The island features characteristic North Sea coastal elements including tides, tidal channels, dunes, and sandbanks. Langeoog has an area of approximately 20 square kilometres and a sandbank about 14 kilometres long, with a dune landscape reaching up to 20 metres in height. The bathing and castle beach extends over 4 kilometres and is divided into sections A through L from west to east.

Water

North Sea coastal water. The beach is approximately 4 kilometres long with sandbanks. A deep tidal channel flows in front of the Langeoog beach.

Location

Langeoog island, accessible by island railway from Langeoog harbour, by train from all directions, and by airplane. A general motor vehicle ban applies on the island. The bathing area is divided into sections A to L from west to east, with a dog beach in the west, youth beach and surf beach in the east, and a sports beach in the central area.

Facilities

DLRG lifeguard supervision at three fixed stations. Sanitary facilities available in sufficient numbers. Sports beach offers free loan of play and sports equipment. Playground equipment including swings, seesaws, slides and horizontal bars available seasonally on the bathing beach. Beach chairs available for rent during the season.

Water Quality

EU classification: Excellent quality (percentile assessment according to Directive 2006/7/EC).

Risks

Sandbanks west of the sports beach must be avoided. The sandbanks have grown higher, making the tidal channel deeper and the current significantly stronger. Multiple rescue operations, including helicopter deployments, have occurred in recent years. In the low tide zone, there is no firm ground and a danger of sinking exists.
