The Okertalsperre is a popular excursion destination in the Upper Harz region featuring a reservoir with ship cruises, boat rentals, and several restaurants directly at the dam. Swimmers and sport divers find good conditions for their activities. The site offers camping, sailing, fishing, and paddleboats. An asphalted forest road around the reservoir is suitable for inline skating and cycling, with a circular hiking trail of approximately 12.5 km that can be shortened using the passenger ferry service. The whitewater section of the Oker River between the power plant and tailrace basin has special appeal for canoeing.
