Par Sands is on the south coast of Cornwall. It is a large sandy beach resort, approximately one kilometre wide, backed by sand dunes. The Polmear Stream flows across the beach into the sea.

Risks

There is an emergency/storm overflow from the Par No.2 pumping station that discharges to the Par River 230m upstream from the beach. There is an emergency overflow from the Par No.1 pumping station that discharges to the sea at Par Spit one and a half kilometres from the beach. The operation of the overflow can lead to a temporary drop in water quality in the Par River and at Par Sands bathing water.
This bathing water is included in the Surfers Against Sewage “Safer Seas Service”. This service can alert you to Combined Storm Sewer Overflow discharges via a phone App and in addition, it includes the Environment Agency Pollution Risk Forecast warnings where they are available.
