Paramos is a rural beach featuring an extensive sand strip and dune line bordered by two breakwaters. It is located in Espinho municipality within the Douro River basin. The bathing water is monitored weekly during the official bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009. Faecal contamination may originate from Ribeira de Paramos tributary, Barrinha de Esmoriz, or the local sewerage network. No days of bathing being advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive flow from tributary streams during rainfall, microbiological load transport, or malfunction of the wastewater pumping station or wastewater treatment plant. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with historical occurrence of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no historical occurrence.
