Cavalière Beach is a natural bathing site located in the commune of Le Lavandou on the French Mediterranean coast. The beach achieved an EXCELLENT water quality classification in the 2022 monitoring season according to European bathing water directives. The site experiences significant summer tourism with approximately 700 daily users during peak season. Water temperature reaches a maximum of 26°C in summer. The beach is subject to occasional pollution events following heavy rainfall, though these remain relatively rare and brief.

Location

Le Lavandou commune, French Riviera. A mooring zone (ZMEL) is located at the edge of the bathing area. A parking area is situated 50 metres from the bathing zone. Several restaurants and infrastructure are located 10 metres from the water.

Public information devices present. Quality assurance signage installed. Lifeguard post present.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT (2022 season). Compliant with European Directive 2006. Monitoring conducted by Délégation Départementale du Var. Pollution sources identified include sewage overflow from a pumping station, storm water runoff from the Quicule stream, agricultural runoff, parking area runoff containing hydrocarbures and mineral oils, and boat mooring activities. Phytoplankton species (Ostreopsis, Dinophysis, Prorocentum) present risk of proliferation due to organic matter pollution from wastewater treatment. Pollution events are typically brief (under 72 hours) and occur following heavy rainfall or storms.
