Port Grimaud Sud is an artificial sandy beach located in Grimaud, spanning 260 meters in length. The bathing zone is situated in a naturally dominated watershed with urbanized development in its lower section. The beach experiences mooring activity and has currents influenced by the mistral wind. The area is part of the Giscle watershed, which measures over 235 square kilometers.

Water

Artificial sandy beach, 260 meters long. The water body is part of the Port Grimaud area with a circulation current flowing toward Marines de Cogolin. The regimen is influenced by daily mistral wind patterns.

Location

Grimaud, in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez region. The beach is located at Port Grimaud Sud with a lifeguard station (poste de secours) and toilet facilities (sanitaires) available on-site.

Season

Official monitoring period: 1 June to 30 September. Preventive bathing closures are implemented during heavy rainfall events and reopening occurs upon receipt of conforming test results.

Water Quality

The bathing zone has been monitored by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) since 2013. Water quality classification history shows ratings from 2015 to 2021. Monitoring occurs from 1 June to 30 September with a pollution risk level classified as moderate. Ten water samples are analyzed per season at a frequency of twice weekly. Conformity rate for analyses is 98% since 2016 and 96% since 2014. Analysis method uses impedance with results available within 13 hours maximum. Identified pollution sources include wastewater network ruptures, treatment plant incidents, private pumping stations, storm water runoff, the Giscle river, agricultural activities, and port activities.

Risks

Heavy rainfall (>10mm/3h cumulative) triggers preventive bathing closures. Storm water surge causes water quality degradation. Potential wastewater network ruptures and treatment plant overloads during heavy rainfall. Private pumping station malfunctions with possible overflow onto roadways. Agricultural runoff contributes organic matter. Port activities including fuel and grey water discharge.
