Port Grimaud Sud is a bathing beach in Grimaud with fine sand measuring 260 metres in length. The beach is artificially maintained and experiences daily mechanical and manual cleaning. The bathing zone is located within a port area characterised by natural dominance over the broader basin (58%) with urbanised elements on the lower section.

Water

Marine bathing water body associated with the Giscle river system. The catchment basin measures over 235 square kilometres, with risk assessment conducted on the lower 15-kilometre section corresponding to a 10-hour response time at low flow.

Location

Port Grimaud, Grimaud. The bathing zone is situated within the Port Grimaud area, with parking and facilities available on the surrounding beaches.

Facilities

First aid post, toilets, speed limitation zone (5 knots), bathing-only zone (ZRUB), motorised engine exclusion zone (ZIEM), motorised engine channels, and windsurfing zone available.

Season

Official monitoring period from 1 June to 30 September. Ten water samples collected per season.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) since 2013 throughout the bathing season from 1 June to 30 September. Pollution risk level classified as Moderate. Routine analysis compliance rate of 96% since 2014 and 98% since 2016. Analysis frequency of twice weekly with results available within 13 hours maximum using impedance methodology. Closure of bathing has occurred following heavy rainfall events (>10mm in 3 hours with watercourse discharge) and wastewater treatment incidents. Multiple pollution sources identified including wastewater collection networks, treatment stations, stormwater systems, and agricultural runoff.

Risks

Rainfall-induced contamination from stormwater runoff and river discharge causing temporary bathing closures lasting 8 to 72 hours. Wastewater treatment incidents and network failures identified as significant risks. Wastewater collection network porosity and surcharge during rainfall. Historical incidents of wastewater discharge in the Giscle river.
