Porcon beach is a bathing site located in the northeast of Saint-Méloir-des-Ondes commune in Brittany, France. Water quality has been variable, classified as medium quality in 2012, sufficient in 2013, 2015, and 2016, and insufficient in 2014. The beach is drained by the Porcon stream, which collects runoff from approximately 80 hectares of watershed. A pond upstream acts as a buffer, partially reducing microbial contamination during dry periods or light rainfall.

Risks

Pollution risk from non-compliant individual wastewater treatment systems (majority of the sanitation network). Microbiological contamination from aquatic birds on the upstream pond. Presence of horses or dogs on the beach presents sanitary risk. Degradation more likely around high tide (PM-2 hours to PM+2 hours). Heavy rainfall acts as an aggravating factor but is not a necessary condition for water quality degradation.
