Plage Océane, also known as Plage de la Sauvagine, is a typical Landes beach located on the Atlantic coast of southwestern France in the commune of Soustons. The beach measures 400 meters in length and 80 meters in width, with a sandy substrate and a gentle 2% slope. It features natural dunes and extensive wooded areas to the southeast, with minimal development in the bathing zone. The beach is situated approximately 500 meters from Lac Marin and serves multiple purposes including swimming, water sports, and fishing.

Atlantic Ocean beach. Length: 400 meters. Width: 80 meters. Surface area: 32,000 square meters. Average slope: 2%. Water transparency (Secchi depth) is greater than 1 meter. The beach is situated on the Landes coastal façade, south of Vieux-Boucau and the outlet of Lac Marin. Water circulation: predominantly north-south current.

Location

Soustons is located in the Landes department of the Aquitaine region, approximately 22 kilometers northwest of Dax. The beach is accessed via a road with parking available. Access is not problematic.

Facilities

Sanitary equipment available. Waste collection service. Lifeguard post with information display. Dogs permitted on beach but must be kept on leash. Limited general amenities.

Water Quality

Classification 2006 Directive: Excellent quality. Historical classifications (2006–2010): Grade A (good quality water). Monitoring results show Escherichia coli values rarely exceeding guide values; the imperative value has never been reached. One exceedance of enterococcus threshold occurred on 18 August 2010 (422 CFU/100 ml), returning to compliant levels within 48 hours. No episodes of algal blooms, abundant deposits, foam formation, or swimmer dermatitis were recorded.
