Three bathing beaches in La Londe Les Maures in the Var department: Miramar, Tamaris, and l'Argentière. This vulnerability profile document analyzes the physical, geographic, and hydrological characteristics of these beaches along with their water quality monitoring data from 2006 to 2010. The beaches are subject to potential pollution from various sources including storm water runoff, wastewater discharge, Port Miramar activities, agricultural operations, and camping facilities.

Coastal Mediterranean bathing waters. The study area includes the Maravenne river, Port Miramar, and the Gargatte canal which discharge into the bathing water zones.

Location

La Londe Les Maures in the Var department, France. Three beaches identified: Plage de Miramar, Plage de Tamaris, and Plage de l'Argentière.

Water Quality

Water quality was monitored by DDASS (health authority) from 2006 to 2010. Additional sampling campaigns were conducted by Veolia Eau in October 2010 and by the Port Authority from May to September 2010. The document includes analysis of bacteriological data and evaluation of pollution source criticality. Potential for cyanobacteria, macro-algae, and phytoplankton proliferation was assessed.

Risks

Multiple identified pollution sources including storm water discharge outlets, wastewater network overflow, Port Miramar operations, Maravenne river discharge, mooring zones, wastewater treatment plant outfall (émissaire de la STEP), agricultural operators, camping facilities, activity zones, non-collective sanitation systems, and sensitive zones in the wastewater network.
