Coastal water body in the Eastern Coast water mass (160007). The beach is 770 meters long and 65 meters wide with variable width. Macrotidal conditions exceed 4 meters amplitude. Water renewal time is less than 7 days. Mean wind speed is 5.24 meters per second. Current direction is west-northwest. Wave activity is moderate to windy.

Location

Located in Prado, Caravia municipality, Asturias, Spain. The beach is accessible by road with 50–100 parking spaces and has good pedestrian access.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is excellent. Microbiological monitoring at sampling point PM1 shows excellent sanitary quality results. No significant pollution sources are present. The Caravia stream discharges into the beach but carries insignificant influence due to scarce volume. No historical contamination episodes are recorded. Overall contamination risk is assessed as very low.

Risks

The Caravia stream is identified as a possible pollution source due to potential filtration and discharge from adjacent parcels and tourism complexes, although it has no relevant influence on bathing water quality. Jellyfish incidents are rare; Portuguese man o'war sightings were recorded in summers 2008 and 2010 with isolated specimens. A significant jellyfish event occurred in summer 2012 affecting Asturian beaches generally, but subsequent records for this beach are null. Microalgae, cyanobacteria, and macroalgae proliferation risk is null.
