Cala Panizo is a natural coastal bathing water in Almería, Andalucía, located on the Mediterranean coast. The beach measures 160 metres in length with an average width of 25 metres and features a composition of gravel and sand with golden-coloured sand. Swimming conditions are characterized by calm waters with moderate wave exposure dominated by easterly winds. The beach has a semi-urban character with medium occupancy.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water, deep sandy substrate with gravel and rocks. Water body code 710000. Batimetry shows deep waters. Tidal range is microtidal (0–2 metres). Current regime is dominant towards east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave regime is dominated by easterly and east-northeast winds associated with levante wind. Annual precipitation is 400–600 millimetres with a torrentiality index of 50–75 percent.

Location

Cuevas de Almanzora, Almería province, Andalucía. The beach is accessible on foot or by car. The nearest sports port is Villaricos, 10 kilometres away.

Facilities

Lifeguards and surveillance equipment present. Red Cross post not available. Signage and cleaning service provided. Waste bins available. No disabled access, toilets, showers, boardwalks, water sports rental, nautical club, or scuba diving zone.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent for bathing seasons 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. The bathing water is within a protected zone designated as a Natura 2000 site (LIC). Short-term contamination risk is low and microbiological in nature, assessed using deterministic methodology (UNE 150008 standard). Risk from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation is all classified as low.
