Pozo Esparto is a 1000-metre natural coastal bathing beach located in Almería, Andalucía, situated on the Mediterranean Sea. The beach has a medium width of 25 metres with dark sand and gravel composition, and experiences moderate wave conditions. It is classified as an urbanised beach with a medium occupancy level.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body, deep sandy substrate with gravels and rocks. Micromareal range of 0-2 metres. Currents are dominant towards the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave regime is dominant from the east and east-northeast associated with levante wind. Moderately exposed to wave action.

Location

Cuevas de Almanzora municipality, Almería province, Andalucía. The beach is easily accessible on foot or by car. The nearest sports port is Villaricos, 12 kilometres away.

Facilities

Lifeguard team on duty, rescue equipment available, signage present, walkways, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, and disabled access available. No Red Cross post.

1 June to 30 September

Water Quality

Water quality classification was Excellent for all monitoring seasons from 2013 to 2016. Low-level microbiological short-duration pollution risk (24 hours) identified from diffuse sources including land use patterns and altered constructed surfaces. No point pollution sources recorded.

Risks

Low risk of jellyfish. Low risk of phytoplankton proliferation. Medium risk of macroalgae proliferation.
