Calahonda is a 3,340-metre beach in Mijas, Málaga, located on the Mediterranean coast. The beach features dark sand, shallow waters, and a semiurban setting with high occupancy. Swimming conditions are generally calm, and the beach is situated within a protected area classified as a Site of Community Importance (LIC).

Mediterranean coastal water body. Shallow waters with sandy substrate. Average beach width of 20 metres. Micromareal range (0–2 m). Currents dominant toward the northeast. Wave exposure is moderate, with dominant waves from the east and east-southeast associated with levante wind.

Location

Mijas, Málaga, Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot or by car. Parking is available. The nearby Puerto Cabopino sports harbour serves the area.

One point source: Cala de Mijas wastewater treatment plant (EDAR CALA DE MIJAS, MA084), classified as treated urban discharge. Diffuse sources include land uses, built surfaces, and altered areas in the influence zone. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk (24 hours).
