Playa La Caleta, located in Famara on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, is a coastal bathing beach measuring 109 meters in length and 15 meters in width. The beach features white sand, boulders, and rock substrate. It is exposed to moderate wave action with a tidal range of 1-3 meters. The water body is a natural coastal surface water mass classified as ES70LZTI1 (North of Lanzarote and La Graciosa), which maintains good ecological status.

Playa La Caleta is situated in the municipality of Teguise on the island of Lanzarote, in the province of Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain. The nearest locality is Famara. Road access is available with parking for fewer than 50 vehicles. A promenade providing partial access is present.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on evaluation of fecal indicator bacteria (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) collected over four years according to Royal Decree 1341/2007. One identified point source: EDAR (wastewater treatment plant) of Caleta de Famara. Cyanobacteria proliferation episodes of Trichodesmium were recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish or sea urchins. No risk from macroalgae.

Risks

Occasional pollution episodes from stormwater runoff generated by heavy rainfall (carrying potential contaminants from upstream). Occasional episodes from raw or treated urban wastewater (from pipe breaks, sewage network failures, overflow/emergency discharges, or unauthorized dumping). Expected duration of pollution episodes: less than 72 hours. Frequency: sporadic/unforeseeable. Cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) documented in 2004, 2010, and 2017.
