Chilches is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing water located in Málaga, Andalucía. The beach extends for 1,980 meters with an average width of 25 meters and features dark sand composition. It experiences moderately exposed conditions with moderate wave action and is characterized by a micromareal tidal range with currents dominant toward the northeast.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body in the Cuenca Mediterránea Andaluza water district. Water mass 610011 (Rincón de la Victoria - Límite PN de Acantilados de Maro). The water is classified as deep with mud and sand substrate. Tidal range is micromareal (0–2 m). Wave regime is dominant from the east and east-southeast associated with Levante wind.

Location

Vélez-Málaga municipality, Málaga province, Andalucía. Access is available on foot or by car. The beach is classified as semi-urban.

Water Quality

Water quality classifications for the reporting period 2013–2016 were consistently Excellent across all four seasons. Short-duration contamination risk is low and microbiological in nature (24 hours). Monitoring was conducted using deterministic methodology following UNE 150008 standard.

Risks

Short-duration contamination risk from diffuse sources including land use in the influence zone, constructed surfaces, and altered areas. Five streams and unnamed watercourses (Iberos, Almacate, Canteras, Niza) present in the area. Medium risk of jellyfish proliferation. Low risk of phytoplankton and macroalgae proliferation.
