Location

Santoña, Cantabria, Spain. Accessible by car via the CA-141 road. Bus service available from Santander to Santoña. Parking available with fewer than 50 spaces.

Facilities

Lifeguards on duty, surveillance equipment, lifesaving equipment. Toilets, showers, telephone. Disabled access available. Blue flag designation. Rubbish bins, cleaning service, access walkways. Umbrella rental, deck chair rental, kiosks and bathing facilities available. Local police present. Red Cross post.

Water Quality

Bathing water classification: Excellent (2012–2016). Chlorophyll-a concentration at the Berria coastal water station is approximately 2.8 µg/l. Phytoplankton density in Cantabrian estuaries is low, below 5,000,000 cells/litre. Urban wastewater discharge (EDAR San Pantaleón) occurs continuously at coordinates 463418, 4815337 UTM.

Risks

Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, or phytoplankton proliferation risk is low based on chlorophyll-a and phytoplankton density measurements.
