Playa de Cossis is a maritime bathing zone located in Vinaròz, Castellón province, in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is an open cove beach without defensive structures, featuring a rigid seafront promenade. The beach is bounded to the north and south by rocky areas with small cliffs. The bathing zone has a high-tide shoreline length of 93.8 metres and mean width of 26.89 metres, with a gravel composition of artificial origin.

Water Quality

Water body status classified as excellent. Monitoring conducted weekly during bathing season from 1 June to 15 September. Water quality assessment categories include water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness, each rated as excellent, good, sufficient, or insufficient. A submarine outfall (Emisario Submarino Vinaroz) 2,374 metres long discharges treated effluent at maximum depth of 18.1 metres. Urban wastewater treatment plant (EDAR de Vinaròz) has design capacity of 12,000 m³/day with secondary treatment plus chlorination and effluent removal efficiency of 94% for suspended solids, 94% for BOD5, and 91% for COD.

Risks

A mixed-origin overflow (Aliviadero EB norte playa) with 40 centimetre width poses medium-level risk and discharges sporadically at the north limit. Low frequency and minor impact from rainfall, urban sewerage, and coastal discharges. Low frequency and minor impact from rivers/channels, industrial installations, and port facilities. Low frequency and minor impact from diffuse pollution. No cyanobacteria proliferation detected on the Valencian coast.
