Itzurun is a sandy beach located between Punta Marianton and Punta Algorri in the Matxitxako-Getaria coastal water body, within Zumaia municipality in Gipuzkoa, Spain. The beach has a length of 270 metres and average width of 75 metres, with a mean surface area of 20,250 square metres. It is a semi-urban beach with northwest orientation exposed to strong waves, confined longitudinally by an artificial structure and laterally by cliffs. The beach has excellent facilities and services, good vehicular and pedestrian access, and a parking area. It experiences high user attendance throughout the summer season.

Water

Coastal water body in the Matxitxako-Getaria water mass. Length 270 metres, average width 75 metres, mean surface area 20,250 square metres (7,000 square metres at high tide, approximately 14,000 square metres at low tide). Composed of fine sand. Tidal amplitude 4.8 metres, minimum tide 1 metre. Strong wave exposure with water renewal equal to or less than 7 days.

Location

Located in Zumaia municipality, Gipuzkoa province, Spain, between Punta Marianton and Punta Algorri. The beach has good road and pedestrian access and an urban parking area managed by Zumaia council.

Lifeguards, watch tower, first aid kit, rescue boat, ambulance. Public services: changing rooms, toilets, washbasins, showers. Bases with showers, foot wash facilities, and fountains. Disabled access: ramps, changing rooms, toilets, washbasins, showers. Information panels, public address system. Waste bins and containers. Umbrellas for hire and umbrella areas. Bicycle parking. Bar, café, and restaurant. Domestic animals prohibited during bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as EXCELLENT for 2008–2010 according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations remained below the insufficient quality threshold (500 NMP/100 ml for E. coli and 185 NMP/100 ml for enterococci) throughout the last 3 bathing seasons. Peribeach area hygiene classified as GOOD in 2008–2010. The Matxitxako-Getaria coastal water body has an ecological status of Very Good, chemical status is compliant, and overall pressure is low.
