Playa de la Almadrava is a bathing beach located in Benicàssim, Castellón province, in the Valencian Community. The beach has an irregular closed configuration with parallel and perpendicular breakwaters and a rigid maritime promenade. It is bounded to the north by Playa de Voramar and to the south by Playa de Torre Sant Vicent. The beach spans 916.2 metres along the high tide line with an average width of 56.2 metres and is composed of sand.

Water

Marine bathing water in the Júcar hydrographic demarcation. Sandy beach with low accumulation coastline. Current direction runs south to north. Microtidal range. The water mass is classified as coastal category 1 with moderate ecological status.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored weekly during the bathing season. Quality classification is determined by visual inspection parameters including water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness, rated as excellent, good, sufficient, or insufficient. The Benicàssim wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) serves the municipality with a design flow of 18,000 cubic metres per day, achieving treatment efficiency of 86% for suspended solids and biochemical oxygen demand and 78% for chemical oxygen demand. Treated effluent is discharged via a submarine outfall 3,321 metres in length at a maximum depth of 14.9 metres.

Risks

Potential contamination factors include rainfall (low frequency, mild impact), urban wastewater systems (low frequency, mild impact), and coastal discharges (low frequency, mild impact). Rivers, canals, industrial installations, port facilities, and diffuse pollution are all present at low frequency with mild impact. No direct coastal discharges or urban sanitation connections that could affect water quality have been identified. Phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon more likely in low-renewal zones or near river mouths. Jellyfish proliferation is a natural phenomenon associated with geomorphology, climatic conditions, and high water temperatures.
