Playa de Las Fuentes is a closed cove-style beach located in Alcalá de Xivert, Castellón province in the Valencian Community. The beach features parallel groynes as defence structures and a rigid maritime promenade. It is bounded by rocky areas and cliffs to the north and a sports port installation to the south. The beach has an artificial sandy composition with low-accumulation coastal characteristics.

Water Quality

Water quality classification system based on visual inspection parameters and monitoring results during bathing season (1 June to 15 September). Weekly inspections assess water appearance, sand cleanliness, and facility maintenance. Quality assessments are rated as Excellent, Good, Sufficient, or Insufficient. A groundwater discharge point exists with medium risk level, located within the beach centre area. Urban wastewater treatment is provided by EDAR Alcalá Xivert with treatment level T2º plus chlorination and a submarine outfall system constructed in 1993.

Risks

Groundwater discharge into the beach with medium risk level. Potential short-term contamination factors include low-frequency rainfall events with mild impact, urban sanitation systems with low frequency and mild effect, and coastal discharges with low frequency and mild effect. Rivers/canals, industrial facilities, port installations, and diffuse pollution present with low frequency and mild impact. Phytoplankton proliferations are a natural phenomenon in low-renewal water zones. Jellyfish blooms are natural phenomena associated with coastal geomorphology, climate conditions and high water temperatures.
