Piélagos, Cantabria. Accessible by car via road S-20. Parking available with over 100 spaces. Interurban bus service available. Valdecilla Hospital is the nearest hospital, located 5 kilometres away in Santander.

Water Quality

Water quality classifications from 2005 to 2010: rated as 'Muy Buena' (Excellent) in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010; rated as 'Buena' (Good) in 2006, 2008, 2011. Chlorophyll-a concentration in the Liencres coastal water station is approximately 2.3 µg/l. Phytoplankton density in Cantabrian estuaries is very low, below 5,000,000 cells/l.

Risks

Strong wave conditions and windy weather are characteristic of the beach. Low risk of Directive 2006/7/CE non-compliance.
