Platja de Llevant is an open beach located in the urban municipality of Premià de Mar in Barcelona, Catalonia, on the Mediterranean coast. The beach is 690 metres long with an average width of 130 metres and a surface area of 96,306 square metres. It is bounded to the north by Torrent de les Tartanes and to the south by the Port of Premià. The beach experiences moderate summer occupation.

Mediterranean Sea, sandy beach type with coarse sediment (D50 = 0.64 mm). Water mass C17 (Mataró-Montgat): sandy shallow type with moderate continental influence. Average salinity ranges from 37.0 to 38.5 psu. Water temperatures: June 20.8°C, July 24.0°C, August 24.5°C, September 23.8°C. Predominant sea state: rippled. Significant wave height 0.69 metres with average period of 6.2 seconds. Coastline evolution rate: 4.7 metres per year.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) from June to September each year under the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/CE and Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring focuses on faecal indicator bacteria: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Quality classifications range from Excellent to Insufficient based on four-year statistical analysis of monitoring results.

Risks

Torrent de l'Amell is the only source of freshwater discharge near the bathing area, occurring occasionally during rainfall conditions. The beach is situated in a zone with high hydrological response velocity (VRH) to rainfall episodes.
