Coastal maritime water body in the Cantabrian Sea within the Cantabric River Basin demarcation. Beach length 1,800 meters; average width 40 meters.

Location

Valdáliga, Cantabria, Spain. Accessible by car via road CA-131. Parking available with 50 spaces. Nearest hospital is Sierrallana in Torrelavega, 20 kilometers away.

Facilities

Lifeguards on duty. Rescue equipment available. Local police present. Bins provided. Signage installed. Accessible facilities for disabled persons. No toilets, showers, kiosks, or maritime sports services.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent from 2012 to 2015 and Good in 2016 according to Real Decreto 1341/2007. Chlorophyll 'a' concentration in the estuary is below 5 µg/l. Phytoplankton density in Cantabrian estuaries is homogeneous and very low, below 5,000,000 cells/liter. Coastal water station chlorophyll 'a' concentration is approximately 2 µg/l.

Risks

Urban wastewater discharge from EDAR Comillas treatment plant (continuous). Low risk of contamination with respect to Directive 2006/7/CEE. No changes expected in current conditions.
