Pixavaques is a small, enclosed beach in L'Ametlla de Mar, Tarragona, bounded by rocks on both sides that extend several metres and give the beach a U-shaped form. The beach is situated in an urban setting, though the back area is occupied by a campsite. The beach experiences high occupancy during summer months. It is located near the municipal sports and fishing port of L'Ametlla on its right side.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. Beach width averages 22 m with a length of 60 m and a surface area of 1,486 m². Fine sand sediment with median grain size of 0.17 mm. Moderate water entry gradient. Water mass C32: L'Ametlla de Mar-Conca Catalana de l'Ebre, sandy shallow type with moderate continental influence. Average salinity 33.4–38.3 psu. Water temperatures: June 22.3°C, July 25.7°C, August 25.6°C, September 24.6°C. Significant wave height 81 cm with mean period 5.24 seconds and most frequent easterly direction. Predominant sea state is rippled. Predominant winds are weak from the northwest.

L'Ametlla de Mar, Tarragona, Baix Ebre comarca, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is near the municipal port (sports and fishing).

June to September.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored fortnightly by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) from June to September. Microbiological quality is assessed using indicators of faecal contamination: Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci. Quality is classified into four annual categories (Excellent, Good, Sufficient, Insufficient) based on statistical treatment of analytical results from the last four bathing seasons according to Directive 2006/7/CE and Royal Decree 1341/2007.

Risks

The beach is located at the terminus of Pixavaques ravine, which naturally does not supply water but discharges to sea during heavy rainfall events. The beach has a low hydrological response velocity index.
