Santa Catalina is a natural coastal bathing beach located in the external bay of Cádiz, Andalucía. The beach stretches 3,035 metres in length with an average width of 40 metres and is composed of golden sand. It experiences moderate wave conditions and has a high occupancy level. The beach is semi-urbanised with a Red Cross post and rescue equipment available during the bathing season.

Water

Coastal Atlantic waters of the external Cádiz Bay in the Gulf of Cádiz. Shallow water with sand, rock, and mud substrates. Mesomareal range of 2–4 metres. Tidal currents dominant towards south, south-southeast, and southeast. Moderately exposed to waves, predominantly from the west and secondarily from the southeast. Annual precipitation 200–400 mm with torrential index 25–50%.

Location

Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz province, Andalucía. Access is on foot. The beach is semi-urbanised with a nearby sports port (Puerto Deportivo Sherry).

Facilities

Red Cross post, rescue equipment, lifeguards, toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, beach walkways. Water sports rental available. No signage. No disabled access.

1 June to 30 September

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for bathing seasons 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Low-level short-duration microbiological contamination risk (24 hours) determined using standard UNE 150008 methodology. Diffuse pollution sources include land use in the zone of influence, built surfaces, and altered areas.

Low risk of jellyfish blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of macroalgae blooms.
