Playa del Cura is a bathing beach located in Torrevieja, Alicante, in the Valencian Community. The beach has an irregular closed configuration with perpendicular breakwaters and a rigid maritime promenade. It is bordered to the north by Playa Los Locos and to the south by Playa de las Piscinas del Paseo. The beach has a mean width of 31.2 metres and a high-water line length of 441.4 metres, with a composition of rock and sand.

Microtidal range. The water body is part of the Segura River Basin District and belongs to coastal water mass category CW.

Location

Torrevieja, Alicante province, Valencian Community, Spain. Parking is available. The beach is accessed via Calle Virgen de la Paloma.

Lifeguards and rescue services available. Foot showers and foot washing facilities. Free public toilets and toilets in chiringuitos. Beach bars and refreshment kiosks. Disabled access. Parking. Buoys for delimitation. Sunbed and umbrella rental, kiosk services.

Water Quality

Water quality has been classified as Excellent in recent monitoring seasons (2020–2023). The coastal water mass has been classified as having Good status under the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/CE. Weekly inspections during the bathing season assess water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness on a scale of Excellent, Good, Sufficient, or Insufficient. No direct discharges to the coastline exist that could affect water quality.

Risks

Potential short-duration contamination factors identified with low frequency and mild impact: rainfall, urban wastewater, and coastal discharges. Rivers, canals, industrial installations, port installations, and diffuse pollution all present with low frequency and mild impact. No cyanobacteria episodes have been detected on the Valencian coast. Jellyfish proliferation is a natural phenomenon that can occur with low water renewal conditions.
