Playa Grao-Malvarrosa is a beach located in Burriana, Castellón province, in the Valencian Community, Spain. The beach has a closed longitudinal configuration with perpendicular breakwaters for defence structures and no promenade. It features an artificial sand composition and is classified as a low-accumulation coastal area. The beach is approximately 970 metres long with an average width of 123.5 metres. Current flow runs from south to north in a microtidal range.

Location

Located in the municipality of Burriana, Castellón province, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is bounded to the north by the municipal natural site 'Clot de la Mare de Déu' and to the south by Playa del Arenal. Parking is available. Access is provided for people with disabilities.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified and monitored under Royal Decree 1341/2007. Two monitoring points are established: Calle Andrea Doria (PM1) and Front Carrer Eivissa (PM2). Weekly inspections assess water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness on an Excellent, Good, Sufficient, or Insufficient scale during the bathing season. The water body has a moderate ecological status. Monitoring has been conducted since 2005 and 2010 at the two respective points.

Risks

One mixed-origin direct discharge point (Ull de la Vila, next to Red Cross building) with medium risk classification, intermittent discharge, 1.7 metres width, equipped with metal gates. Potential risk factors assessed as low frequency and mild effect: rainfall, urban sanitation, coastal discharges, rivers/canals, industrial installations, port installations, and diffuse pollution. No environmental control point (PCA) established as no direct discharges or urban sanitation connections are considered to affect water quality.
