Racó de Calp is a closed cove beach located in the municipality of Calp, Alicante province, in the Valencia region. The beach has a high-tide line of 70 meters and an average width of 18 meters, composed of boulders with an artificial origin. It is bounded to the north by the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park and to the south by the Calp sports port, and features defense structures including a breakwater and an ecological promenade.

Water Quality

Water mass status is good according to Water Framework Directive assessment. Monitoring point established in 2015 at center beach (coordinates UTM 767317, 4280820). No direct discharges to the coast affecting water quality. Urban sanitation is managed through Calpe wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) with capacity 10,250 m³/day and 1,318 m submarine outfall at 29.5 m depth constructed in 1980. Contaminant factors from rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharges are low frequency and mild impact.

Risks

Potential short-term contamination factors from rainfall (low frequency, mild impact), urban sanitation (low frequency, mild impact), and coastal discharges (low frequency, mild impact). Other potential risk factors from rivers/channels, industrial installations, port installations, and diffuse pollution are low frequency with mild impact. No cyanobacteria proliferation has been detected on the Valencia coast. Phytoplankton and jellyfish blooms are natural phenomena possible in low-renewal bathing zones.
