Playa Dorada is a coastal bathing beach located on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 350 meters long and 37 meters wide, featuring fine white sand and calm waters with wave exposure protection. The bathing zone is situated near Playa Blanca in the municipality of Yaiza and benefits from good pedestrian and vehicle access. The water body is classified as a natural coastal surface water mass in the southern sector of Lanzarote.

Water

Natural coastal surface water (ES70LZTII - South of Lanzarote). Bathymetry ranges from 0 to -5 meters. Water conditions are calm with protected wave exposure. Tidal range is 1-3 meters. Substrate consists of fine white sand.

Location

Playa Dorada is located near Playa Blanca in the municipality of Yaiza on the island of Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain. Good pedestrian access and vehicle access are available, with a promenade and good parking facilities.

Lifeguards, public water supply with potable water, showers, public toilets, bins, bars, wheelchair access (good), parking (good), promenade, umbrella rental, lounger rental, emergency medical care.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on evaluation of fecal contamination indicators: Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci, collected over four years in accordance with RD 1341/2007. The coastal water mass is in good ecological state (biological and physicochemical) with overall state classified as good or better.

Risks

Diffuse pollution sources include Playa Blanca port (passenger and sports transit) and Marina Rubicón sports port. Point pollution sources include a submarine outfall at Costa Papagayo and the Hotel Princesa Yaiza sewage treatment plant. Possible short-duration contamination risks include raw or treated urban wastewater (emission ruptures, sewer failures, emergencies, unauthorized discharges), brine discharge from desalination plants, and accidental spills of hydrocarbons or organic waste. Cyanobacteria Trichodesmium proliferation episodes occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
