El Palmar is a natural Atlantic coastal beach in the Gulf of Cádiz, located in Vejer de la Frontera, Cádiz. The beach is 3,330 metres long with an average width of 50 metres and features golden sand with rocky substrates. Bathing conditions are characterised by moderate waves and wind exposure. The beach is semiurbanised with a medium occupancy level.

Water

Atlantic coastal water body in the Gulf of Cádiz. Shallow waters with sand and rock substrate. Mesomareal tidal range of 2–4 metres. Current regime dominant towards south, south-southeast, and southeast. Wave regime dominant from the west and secondarily from the southeast. Exposed to very exposed wave action.

Location

Vejer de la Frontera, Cádiz, Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot and by car. A Red Cross post and lifeguard equipment are present.

Facilities

Red Cross post, lifeguard equipment, vigilance equipment, toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, signage and hazard warning signs.

Classified as excellent for bathing seasons 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk assessed as low. Low risk from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.

Risks

Low-level, short-duration microbiological contamination risk from diffuse sources including land use, built and altered surfaces, and agricultural areas in the influence zone. Colinete Stream is the river course.
