El Playazo de Rodalquilar is a natural bathing beach in the Almería region of Andalucía, located on the Mediterranean coast. The beach extends 300 metres in length with an average width of 30 metres and features golden sand composition. It is situated in an isolated, undeveloped area within a protected zone (LIC/ZEPA/Natural Park) near Cabo de Gata. The water is characterized by calm bathing conditions with deep rocky substrates.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body, deep and rocky with gravelly substrate. Micromareal range of 0–2 metres. Currents are dominant towards the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Waves are dominant from the east and east-northeast, associated with Levante wind. The water body is exposed to wave action.

Location

The beach is located in Níjar municipality, Almería province, Andalucía. Access is by foot or by car. The nearest sports port is San José.

Facilities

Surveillance equipment is present. Trash bins and cleaning services are available. Mooring zone exists. Scuba diving zone is designated. No lifeguard station, no rescue equipment, no accessible facilities for disabled persons, no toilets, no showers, no signage, no promenade, no boardwalks, and no nautical equipment rental.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent for all monitoring seasons from 2013 to 2016. Water quality is of short-duration microbiological type with low contamination risk. Diffuse pollution sources include land use in the influence zone, forest and natural surfaces, and agricultural surfaces. A watercourse (Rambla del Playazo) is present in the area.

Risks

Macroalgae proliferation risk is medium. Jellyfish and phytoplankton proliferation risks are low.
