Las Negras is a beach located in the municipality of Níjar in Almería, Andalusia, along the Mediterranean coast. The beach stretches 800 meters in length with an average width of 20 meters and features a composition of sand, gravel, rocks, and boulders with dark sand. Water conditions are generally calm, and the beach experiences high occupancy during the bathing season. The area is part of a protected zone designated as a Special Conservation Area and Natural Park.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water, deep rocky substrate with gravel and rocks. Micromareal range of 0–2 meters. Currents are dominant toward the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave exposure is significant with dominant waves from the east and east-northeast associated with levante wind.

Location

Níjar municipality, Almería province, Andalusia. The beach is accessible on foot and by vehicle. The nearest sports port is San José.

Facilities

Lifeguards present, rescue equipment available, toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service. No Red Cross station. No disabled access. Boardwalk and walkways available. No underwater diving zone or nautical rental services.

1 June to 30 September

Water Quality

Water quality classification was excellent for all four seasons monitored: 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Microbiological contamination risk is low and short-duration (24 hours). Diffuse pollution sources include land use in the influence zone, built and altered surfaces, and agricultural areas. No point pollution sources are recorded.

Risks

Risk of macroalgae proliferation is medium. Risk of jellyfish and phytoplankton proliferation is low.
