Ferrara is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing area located in Torrox, Málaga, Andalucía. The beach spans 1,400 meters in length with an average width of 30 meters and features dark sand composition. It experiences moderately exposed conditions with moderate wave conditions and is highly occupied during the bathing season. The beach is fully urbanized with a seafront promenade and accessible infrastructure.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body with deep bathymetry. Substrate composition is mud and sand. Microtidal range of 0–2 meters with currents dominant toward the northeast. Wave regime is dominant from the east and east-southeast associated with Levante wind. Annual precipitation is 400–600 mm with a torrentiality index of 25–50%.

Location

Torrox, Málaga, Andalucía. The beach is accessible by car with disabled access available. Located between Rincón de la Victoria and the Maro Cliffs National Park boundary.

Red Cross station present. Lifeguard equipment available. Toilets, showers, and waste bins provided. Signage and hazard warning signs present. Disabled access available. Watersports rental available. Sports marina at Caleta del Este.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2013–2016: Excellent in all seasons (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). Short-duration microbiological contamination risk is low. Risk from algal proliferations is low: jellyfish risk is low, phytoplankton risk is low, macroalgae risk is low.

Risks

Diffuse pollution sources from land use in the influence zone, built and altered surfaces. River courses: Río Madre and Río de Torrox.
