Peñoncillo is a natural coastal bathing water located in Torrox, Málaga, on the Mediterranean coast of Andalucía. The beach is 995 metres long with an average width of 30 metres and features dark sand composition. Swimming conditions are characterised by moderate wave exposure with currents dominant towards the northeast. The beach has a medium occupation level and semi-urban character.

Mediterranean coastal waters influenced by Atlantic waters. Deep waters with mud and sand substrate. Micromareal range (0-2 m). Currents dominant towards northeast. Wave regime dominated by easterly and east-southeast winds (levante). Moderately exposed to wave action.

Location

Torrox, Málaga province, Andalucía. Access by car. Located along the Litoral de Málaga coastline in the Mediterranean basin.

Facilities

Toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, nautical rental. Walkways present. No lifeguard service. No Red Cross post. No disabled access. No signalling. No underwater diving zone. Nearest sports port is Caleta del Este.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Low microbiological risk of short duration (24 hours) determined using UNE 150008 standard. Diffuse pollution sources include land uses in the influence zone, agricultural surfaces, built areas and altered areas. River inputs from Río de Torrox and two other tributaries.

Risks

Low risk of jellyfish proliferation. Low risk of phytoplankton proliferation. Low risk of macroalgae proliferation.
