Galeones is a 690-metre beach in Rota, Cádiz, Andalucía, located in the external bay of Cádiz on the Atlantic coast. The beach has a mean width of 45 metres and is composed of golden sand. Water conditions are calm, with shallow depths and moderate wave exposure. The beach is semi-urbanised with a seafront promenade and boardwalks.

Water

Coastal Atlantic waters in the external bay of Cádiz. Shallow waters with sand, rock, and mud substrates. Mesomareal tidal range of 2–4 metres. Currents flow predominantly towards south, south-south-east, and south-east. Dominant waves from the west and secondarily from the south-east. Moderately exposed to wave action.

Location

Rota, Cádiz, Andalucía. Access is on foot. The beach is adjacent to Puerto Deportivo de Rota (Rota Sports Harbour).

Facilities

Red Cross post, lifeguard rescue equipment, surveillance equipment, toilets, showers, bins, cleaning service, nautical equipment rental, accessible facilities for disabled persons, danger signage, informational signage, seafront promenade, boardwalks.

Season

1 June to 30 September.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent quality in all monitoring seasons (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). Low risk of proliferation for jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae. Diffuse pollution sources include land use in the zone of influence and altered built-up surfaces.
