Ciutadella de Menorca, Balearic Islands, Spain. UTM coordinates for sampling point: 571311 (X), 4427448 (Y). Environmental control point UTM coordinates: 596822 (X), 4414003 (Y).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (annual rating 2016), Good (2017–2019). Environmental status: Good (2014), Very Good (2017). Short-duration pollution episodes (under 72 hours) occurred in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Exceptional circumstances exceeding 72 hours occurred in 2018. Identified pollution sources include an EBAR wastewater system without a relief valve, a wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) with a 1,800-metre outfall, a seasonal stream, and urban stormwater runoff.

Risks

Occasional jellyfish blooms. No history of toxic phytoplankton or diatom proliferation.
