Playa de la Almadraba is a bathing water zone located in Ceuta, oriented towards the south and included in the South Bay water mass. The beach is approximately 225 metres long. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate with two distinct seasons: a cool and humid period from October to April, and a warm and dry period from May to September. Water temperatures range from 17–18°C at the surface, with salinity values between 35.6 and 36.8 practical salinity units.

South Bay water mass. Approximately 225 metres long. Surface water temperature ranges from 17–18°C. Salinity values between 35.6 and 36.8 practical salinity units. A mild thermocline appears at 4–5 metres depth. Dissolved oxygen concentration remains relatively stable throughout the water column.

Water Quality

Margalef index indicates a certain degree of eutrophication, likely originating from various anthropogenic inputs. Eutrophication levels decrease with increasing depth and moving northward where tidal current influence increases. Nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate values remain well below quality objectives established for coastal waters, with many points not reaching detection limits.

Risks

Jellyfish incidence and abundance have been monitored during bathing seasons since 2006.
