La Cala is a 1490-metre beach in Mijas, Andalucía, located on the Mediterranean coast. The beach features dark sand and shallow waters with calm bathing conditions. It is moderately exposed to waves dominated by easterly and east-southeasterly winds. The beach is highly occupied and urbanised, with a 20-metre average width.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent in all monitored seasons (2013–2016). Water quality monitoring follows deterministic methodology under UNE 150008 standards. Identified short-duration contamination risk is low and microbiological in nature, associated with the treated urban wastewater treatment plant EDAR Cala de Mijas. Risk from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation is low.

Short-duration microbiological contamination risk identified as low. Diffuse pollution sources from land use, built surfaces, and altered areas. Watercourses including Arroyo de la Cala del Moral and Arroyo de la Realenga may contribute to pollution.
