El Bombo is a 540-metre sandy beach in Mijas, Málaga, located on the Mediterranean coast of Andalucía. The beach features dark sand and shallow waters with calm bathing conditions. It is moderately exposed to waves dominated by easterly and south-easterly winds associated with Levantine weather. The beach is semi-urbanised with high occupancy levels.

Mediterranean coastal water body, micromareal regime (0–2 m tidal range). Shallow water depths with sandy substrate. Currents dominant towards the north-east. Annual precipitation 400–600 mm. Water body code: 610007 (Desembocadura del Guadiaro - Punta de Calaburra).

Location

Mijas, Málaga, Andalucía, Spain. Access available on foot and by car. Signposting and walkways present. Disabled access facilities available.

Red Cross lifeguard station, rescue equipment, surveillance equipment, toilets, showers, waste bins, beach cleaning service, nautical equipment rental, signage and danger warnings, disabled access, coastal pathway.

Water quality classified as Excellent for seasons 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Low microbiological risk of short duration (24 hours). Point source: EDAR Cala de Mijas (MA084) urban wastewater treatment facility. Diffuse sources include land use, built surfaces, and altered areas.

Low risk of jellyfish proliferation. Low risk of phytoplankton proliferation. Low risk of macroalgae proliferation.
