Isleta del Moro is a natural coastal bathing water located in the Mediterranean Sea near Cabo de Gata, Almería. The beach is 265 metres long with an average width of 25 metres and features golden sand. It is situated in an isolated, undeveloped area with low visitor occupancy. The waters are characterised by rocky substrates and deep bathymetry, with generally calm swimming conditions.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water, non-influenced by river inputs, with deep rocky substrates. Bathymetry is deep. Substrate consists of gravel and rocks. Microtidal regime with 0–2 metre tidal range. Currents are dominant towards the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave regime is dominant from the east and east-northeast, associated with levante wind. Water body is exposed to wave action.

Location

The bathing water is located in Níjar municipality, Almería province, in the Almería coastal area of Andalucía. Access is on foot or by vehicle. The nearest sports port is San José, 12 kilometres away.

Facilities

Signage is present. Waste bins are available. Cleaning service is provided. Surveillance equipment is installed. No lifeguard station, rescue equipment, showers, toilets, disabled access, or nautical hire services are available.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent for all monitoring seasons from 2013 to 2016. Risk of short-term contamination is low and microbiological in nature. Monitoring is conducted using the deterministic UNE 150008 standard.

Risk of jellyfish proliferation is low. Risk of phytoplankton proliferation is low. Risk of macroalgae proliferation is medium. Diffuse pollution sources include land use in the influencing zone, forest surfaces, and natural areas.
