Marina del Este is a natural Mediterranean bathing beach located in Almuñecar, Granada, Andalucía. The beach extends 235 metres in length with an average width of 40 metres and features a composition of gravel and dark sand. Water conditions are calm, with deep waters and micromareal tidal ranges. The beach has moderate wave exposure dominated by easterly and east-southeasterly winds associated with levante winds.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body with deep bathymetry. Substrate composition is mud and sand. Micromareal tidal range of 0–2 metres. Dominant current regime towards the northeast. Moderately exposed to wave action with dominant easterly and east-southeasterly wave regime. Average annual precipitation 400–600 mm with torrent index of 25–50%.

Location

Almuñecar, Granada, Andalucía, Spain. Access is on foot or by car. Located near the Marina del Este sports port.

Facilities

Red Cross lifeguard post, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, nautical equipment rental, walkways, easy on-foot access with vehicle access available.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent for all monitoring seasons from 2013 to 2016. Microbiological contamination risk is low with a short-term duration of 24 hours. Risk assessment methodology follows deterministic standards (UNE 150008). Monitored by the Directorate General of Planning and Management of Water Resources and the Public Health Subdirectorate.

Low risk of jellyfish proliferation. Low risk of phytoplankton proliferation. Low risk of macroalgae proliferation.
